Sata-Häme
Soi Accordion Festival, Ikaalinen Finland

The
Sata-Häme
Soi Accordion Festival presents a new International Accordion
Competition, Primus Ikaalinen, to be hold in Ikaalinen, on
July 1st. The emphasis of this competition is variety and public
entertainment music. Each contestant is required to perform two
pieces, lasting 3 to 4 minutes, from their country of origin, if
possible.
The finalists will be accompanied by a professional band (piano,
guitar, bass, keyboard and drums). All together, seven contestants
will be awarded prizes totalling 7,000 Euros. The Chairman of the
Jury is Richard Galliano. Primus
Ikaalinen is part of the weeklong Sata-Häme Soi Accordion Festival.
This gives the contestants the possibility to enjoy the festival
program outside the competition.
The festival program will include a large variety of accordion music,
with different styles and versatile artists from both Finland and
abroad. The contestants will have a free admission to all the festival
events and concerts. The

Australian
Accordionist Performs in
Festival, Tainan Taiwan

Marie
Rappolt with her Fisitalia
Accordion has been invited to perform at a cultural and music
festival in Taiwan, representing Australia with her band Viva
the band, for four weeks from July 2nd to 29th. Marie and Viva
the band performed in Taiwan previously in August 2004, where
they were showcased in a street parade, a welcome by the mayor of
Tainan and a series of concerts and television performances throughout
Taiwan.
Marie and Viva the band perform a mixture of: jazz, swing, Latin,
gypsy jazz, salsa, French , Spanish songs, cabaret and classic show
tunes. The band has become very popular at all their venues, delighting
their audiences with their unique and varied styles of music.
Marie
and Viva the band are very popular on the Sydney entertainment scene,
performing at Venues at Darling Harbour, the Australian Maritime Museum
for Discovery After Dark, the Miss World Ball at the Four
Points, by Sheraton, and the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The band also
perform at jazz festivals and major music events including:
Newcastle Jazz Festival, Morpeth Jazz Festival, Manly International
Jazz Festival, Kiama Jazz Festival, Illawarra Jazz festival, Central
Coast Jazz Leagues, Gold Coast Jazz Festival, Thredbo Jazz Festival
and Sydney Olympic Park and Darling Harbour music events.

Mika
Väyrynen to appear at the Naantali Music Festival - Finland

June 7th at 7pm in the Naantali Church, Finnish accordion virtuoso
Mika Väyrynen will perform in the opening concert of the Naantali
Music Festival. This opening concert will be dedicated to
music of Professor Aulis Sallinen who celebrates his 70th birthday
this year.
The concert
will comprise three concertos including: Chamber Music
No. III for Cello and String Orchestra (Professor Arto Noras
- cello), Chamber Music No. IV for Piano and String Orchestra
(Professor Ralf Gothoni - piano), and Chamber Music No. V
(Barabbas Variations) for Accordion and String Orchestra (Mika
Väyrynen - accordion). The soloists will all perform
with the Virtuosi di Kuhmo String Orchestra, conducted
by Professor Ralf Gothoni.
The Naantali
Music Festival, under the artistic direction of one of the greatest
cellists of all times - Professor Arto Noras, is considered one
of worlds finest festivals. This years guest artistes
will include such names as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Barbara Hendricks,
Krzysztof Penderecki, and many more.

Petersburg Musette Ensemble Publish Music, St Petersburg

The
highly acclaimed St
Petersburg Musette Ensemble, a sextet whose many contest successes
include winning First Prize at the 1999 Citta'
Di Castelfidardo competition in Italy, have made available a
wide range of sheet music for solo, ensemble and orchestras. They
also have available CDs and videos, and are available for concerts,
master classes, workshops and lectures either as a sextet
or in various combinations.
The
members of the St Petersburg Musette Ensemble are: Vladimir Ushakov
(piano accordion, piano), Svetlana Stavitskaya (piano accordion,
piano), Sergei Likhachov (button accordion), Vladimir Bogomolov
(guitar), Vladimir Kurgarov (bass guitar) and Victor Shafranov (drums).

2005 International Accordion Orchestra Competition was held in Castelfidardo
on May 27th and 28th. The adjudicators were Vladimir
Zubitsky (President), Alessandro Mugnoz, Rinaldo Strappati, Claudio
Furlan and Paolo

Australian
International Accordion Championships and Festival, Sydney - Australia

The
Australian International Accordion Championships were held on the
28th and 29th May in Sydney, organized by the AATA,
President Tania
Lukic-Marx. Special Guest Artist Alexander
Poeluev (right) of Russia performed a variety program that had
the enthusiastic audience on their feet applauding this great young
artiste. He was a last minute replacement for the 2004 Coupe
Mondiale International Piano Accordion Competition winner Evgeny
Kochetov, who had the great misfortune to become ill with pneumonia,
and miss out on this tour, which is part of the prize for winning
this class.
Contestants
from New Zealand and Australia took part in the top class with the
results being: 1st - Ann-Elise Koerntjes (Australia), 2nd - Hilary
Thwaites (New Zealand), 3rd - Campbell Hill (New Zealand). Full
results and a photo-montage are online. The
event finished with a Gala Concert featuring John MacDonald, Sydney
Balalaika Orchestra, ACE, Heinz Dabernig, Grayson Masefield and the
ASA Orchestra, directed by Elizabeth Jones.

Accordion Concerts Portugal

A
number of concerts featuring international accordion artistes will
take place at various venues in Portugal during June. The artistes
involved are Berroguetto, a band from Galicia in Spain who feature
Santiago Cribeiro on accordion, Renato Borghetti, a diatonic accordionist
from the Forro tradition of Brazil, and the band La Caravane Passe,
from Switzerland.

National Competition and Review, Reggio Emilia Italy

The
1st National Review Competition and Review takes place at the Villa
of the Mauriziano, birth house of the poet Loduvico Ariosto, on
June 9th. This accordion competition is known as Heart and
Accordion, and proceeds will to the League of the Heart charity.
The concert takes place, from 9pm, and accordionists involved include
Fabio Rossato, Mauro Cart, Paolo Gandolfi, Fisorchestra Luigi Valcavi,
artistic direction Lorenzo Munari.

3rd National Music Competition, Carpinetti Italy

Luigi Valcavi Musical Association, in collaboration with the Town
Council of Carpineti and Province of Reggio Emilia, have organized
the 3rd National Music Competition Carpinetti in Music.
This event takes place from July 1st to 3rd, and includes sections
for various instruments, including the accordion. The accordion sections
take place on July 2nd, and the closing date for entries is June 10th.

Jörgen Sundeqvist Appears at Swaledale Music Festival, North
Yorkshire UK

Swedish
accordionist Jörgen Sundeqvist is to appear at the Swaledale
Music Festival in North Yorkshire on June 7th. He appears in duet
with organist Hakan Dahlén at St Marys Church, Richmond,
at 7.30pm. Their program includes Concerto, by Anthony
Galla Rini, Accordion Concerto, by Eugene Zador, and The
Bubble Tune, by Fredrik Hogberg. This program is also to be
found on a new CD by Jörgen Sundeqvist and Hakan Dahlén.
