Note
The TV broadcast of the Coupe Mondiale
Gala concert (see news item below) is one of many professional TV
productions happening each year that feature accordion excellently.
Sometimes
the accordion is featured as a solo instrument. In recent years, the
accordion is being featured much more in groups and bands - another
sign of the continuing maturity of our beloved accordion and the fact
it is becoming more closely integrated with other musical instruments
and the mainstream world of music. The importance of chamber music
and groups/bands containing an accordionist is growing steadily.

Accordion Exposition - France
Contributed
By: Domi Emorine
On
the 25th of January, near Reims was an exposition of modern accordion
in many different styles. The event was the creation of Bernad Cavanna,
well known composer and director of the Conservatory of Gennevilliers
(near Paris).
There were musicians performing on several different stages at once.
For example, in the hall, accordionists played to receive the public.
In another side of the hall, it was "Tour de France" where
the people can pedal on a bicycle and the quicker they pedal, the
faster the accordionist plays. Also in the hall, the people can see
different video about story of the accordion and a display of old
instruments. On the main stage, some different artists, played, danced
and sang.
The
artists included: Pascal
Contet, Franck Angelis, Isabelle Janvier, Paris
Moscou Duo (Roman Jbanov and Domi Emorine), Nicolas Massoutie,
Amélie Castel, Carmela, Corrinne (pianist), Deborah and Jeanne
Sarah Deledicq (singers).
The styles
of contemporary music performed were: techno, French musette, Argentine
music, Russian folk, jazz. The public found the exposition very interesting
and a real discovery of the versatility of the accordion. The sound
and lights was also artistic with the big screens. It was a very good
creation.

Buyer
Beware! Possible Internet Fraud
Here is
the report by an accordionist in the USA. Lately in a matter
of a few days I've been bombarded with very very suspicious email
offers for a reedless accordion after I had bid on a reedless accordion
on eBay. I know that these guys are con artists. Certainly I didn't
want to tell you about it from experience after losing money to a
con man.
I was filled
with "righteous anger" and I called the Police to ask them
if we can launch a sting operation to catch these guys right in the
act. The officer told me that he just spoke to a person who had lost
US$30,000. The person wired the money to Europe for a car that doesn't
exist! I know that we accordionists are just too sensible and intelligent
to fall for such brazen frauds.
This is just a friendly reminder: Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware!!!
