Richard Galliano in Genoa - Italy

The famous Genoa Harbour set the scene on April
17th for a performance by well known accordionist Richard Galliano
in yet another memorable tango and jazz musical event. The concert,
which took place at the Porto Antico theatre, consisted of two parts.
Firstly it was the duo of Xavier Girotto (accordion) and Luciano
Biondini (saxophone - Argentina) that came on stage, followed in
the second half by the much-awaited and accomplished performance
of Richard Galliano, rich with extraordinary improvisations. The
audience included several enthusiasts and accordionists, such as
Gianluca Campi and Emilio Cervetto.
The concert was capped off by a trio performance
of a well-known piece by Galliano in which he, Biondini & Girotto
were truly astonishing!

41st National Music Competition - Macedonia

The 41st National Music Competition was held
in Skopje from April 17th to 19th organized by the Association of
Music and Ballet pedagogues from the Republic of Macedonia (member
of
EMCY - European Union of Music Competitions for Youth).
The opening concert, held at the concert hall
of the Music high school Ilija Nikolovski-Luj-Skopje, included performances
by an accordion trio consisting of Zoran Kirjakovski, Goran Stankovski
and Kosto Todorovski. The trio were winners of the special prize
at the 40th National Competition for chamber music held in 2002.
The
competition included classes for accordion, flute, oboe, clarinet,
saxophone, trumpet,
horn, trombone, percussion instruments and vocalists. The jury consisted
of five accordion pedagogues from Macedonia who judged the accordion
competitors. President of the jury was Professor Zorica Karakutovska.
Competition winners:
I category (12 years and younger): Georgi
Ciric
II category (up to 15 years of age): Aleksandar Kolovski
(awarded with a special prize)
III category (up to 17 years of age): Kosto Todorovski
IV category (up to 19 years of age): Zoran Kirjakovski (awarded
with a special prize)
The closing concert (held on April 19th) at
the Music Academy in Skopje, included performances by winners of
special and first prizes in all competition categories. A special
jury declared Zoran Kirjakovski the laureate of the whole competition.
He will represent the Republic of Macedonia at the upcoming European
Music Competition for Youth.

Concert & Course with Anne Landa - Spain

Accordionist Anne
Landa held a short course for Galician musicians on the Alexander
technique from April 4th to 6th at the Ferrol Conservatory. The
course included techniques on improving the musician's own performance
through the Alexander Technique, and included individual and group
classes. Eighteen musicians from around Galicia (most of them accordionists),
attended the course. Anne also performed a concert of works by Bach
(Goldberg Variations), Mozart (Sonata) and Andriessen (Overture
to Orpheus) at the Auditorio Torrente Ballester of Ferrol on April
4th.

Spring Celebration Concert - USA
The
"K" Trio
(Mary Kasprzyk Tokarski, Julie Kasprzyk Cardona and Walter Kasprzyk)
will perform at a concert entitled "Celebrating Spring with
Music!" at the Greenwich Arts Council Meeting Room in the Old
Town Hall in Greenwich, CT on May 18th. The trio will play with
members of the Schubert Club.
The "K" Trio are currently working
on their third CD which will comprise of a variety of classical
works such as Debussy's "Clair de Lune", Mozart's "Overture
to the Marriage of Figaro", Lecuona's "Malaguena",
Schubert's "Trio in B Flat", Saint-Saens' "The Elephant"
from 'Carnival of the Animals', Dohnanyi's "Serenade, Opus
10" and many more. Further details will be posted as soon as
possible.

French Accordion Seminar - France
Accordionist Bruno Maurice will tutor the accordion
at the French International Accordion Seminar at the International
Music Academy "Guérande and Pays de Loire" held
from August 15th to 31st in Guérande (north west France).
The seminar will include preparation for international
competitions and for competitions at the Paris Conservatory. Advanced
courses will also be given for preparation of concert performance
or recording, analysis of musical pieces, assertion of musical personality
by the total control of the instrument. Further courses will be
available in the study of physical positions, knowledge of sound
adjustments, tuning of voices, discovery of the accordion repertoire
and records of international soloists plus an introduction to improvisation.

Two Brand New Accordions Stolen - Australia

Two brand new Dallape Super Maestro Organtone
accordions were stolen from a music store in Melbourne. The accordions
were out on display and were stolen without their cases. Interestingly,
the accordions were the only items stolen in a large music shop
crammed full of new musical instruments from guitars, banjoes, saxophones,
trumpets, drums, amplifiers, etc.
Police will be advertising the theft in "Crimestoppers"
Australia wide, as they consider a good chance of recovery if the
