Kuhmo in Raseborg Festival - Finland

The "Kuhmo in Raseborg Accordion Days"
event was held for the second time from November 21st to 24th in
Tammisaari (south west Finland). Three recitals performed by Jukka-Pekka
Kuusela, Henrik Sandås and Kalle Välimaa were given in
the Karjaa, Tenhola and Täktom Churches. Their program included
music by Berinsky, Ryabov, Jokelainen (world premiere), Gubaidulina,
Kusjakov and Bach. In addition, chamber music concerts included
works by Kyllönen (Trilogy's first performance on two accordions),
Truhlar, Wessman and Mozart.
Over 30 pupils (from beginners to conservatory
students) took part in accordion courses organized during the festival.
Workshops of American and Norwegian music were held.
The festival was organized by the Raseborg Music
Institute and was so successful, another is planned for next autumn.

"In a Christmas Mood"
Concerts - Poland
A
Christmas carol concert entitled "In a Christmas Mood"
was held recently at the Club of Music and Literature in Wroclaw.
Performers included Olga Marko (vocals and bandura) and Aleksjej
Suslow (accordion) who also arranged many of the carols.
Following this, a concert of the same name was
also held at the Club of Music in Jelcz-Laskowice with performances
by Aleksjej Suslow (accordion), Olga Marko (vocals and violin),
Dominika Bialostocka (guitar) and Grzegosz Szomanski (percussion).

Traditional Annual Concert - Germany

The "First Cologne Accordion Orchestra 1935"
held their traditional annual concert at the Cologne College of Music
Concert Hall to a capacity audience recently. Conducted by Matthias Hennecke,
they performed a popular program which included "Polowetzer Tänze"
from the opera Prince Igor (Borodin), "Rendezvous with Gershwin"
(Bui), "Libertango" (Piazzolla) and "Pomp and Circumstance"
(Elgar).
The Entertainment Orchestra (conducted by Heike Zapf)
contributed to the varied program with its performance of "A day
on the Farm" by Matthias Henneke.
Because of the popularity of this event and the growing
audience, next year the orchestra plans to hold two concerts on November
29th and 30th, 2003.

Viktor Romanko Completes 2002

Accordionist Viktor
Romanko has now completed his 2002 tour of Switzerland, France
and Germany. While there he received a number of standing ovations
for his performances, which included works by Franck, Liszt, Bach,
Tschernikov and Piazzolla. In conjunction with these works Romanko
also used improvisation with well-known melodies, which he transformed
spontaneously into different style directions.
Plans are now underway for concert tours during
2003.

A new book entitled "Walshe Essential Guide
to Accordion and Harmonica Events: Festivals and Competitions Worldwide"
enumerates and characterizes the most important festivals and competitions
in English. For many years, Willoughby Ann Walshe, American journalist,
passionate accordionist, and technical book author has collected
all kinds of information pertaining to harmonica instrument events
available worldwide. She worked closely with publisher Ulrich Schmülling

format.
