Washington
Bertolin (stage name for Osvaldo Bertone) was born in 1921 in Buenos
Aires. He started playing the accordion at the age of 4, at Sunday
meetings where they would sing songs from their Piedmont origins.
From there he was taken to a festival at Teatro Marconi, and then
to Buenos Aires where he played as a soloist.
In 1934 he was asked to play in Osvaldo Donato's
orchestra, and despite being only 13, Osvaldo was impressed with
his performances. He then brought together César Bo (guitar), Washington
Barraza (rhythmic guitar) and a bass to form the Washington Bertolin
jazz sextet. They have since played in all the major clubs of Buenos
Aires. The sextet was dissolved in 1973, after which Bertolin continued

Accordion Club Forzando Entertains - Netherlands
Contributed by Hillebrand van der Veen
The Amsterdam Accordion Club Forzando B-Orchestra
(conducted by Marian van Vloten) will entertain residents of De
Klinker (home for the elderly) in Amsterdam on October 28th. The
orchestra visits this home on a regular annual basis and always
receive a warm welcome. One of the main reasons for this is the
fact that apart from the "regular concert program" they add many
songs that were well known in "their" time including many sing-a-long
tunes and Dutch favourites.
