International Castelfidardo Competition - Italy
The International
Città di Castelfidardo Accordion Competition was held this week
in Castelfidardo. Held in three venues right in the centre of the
township, this was the largest ever. Giuliano Aude of France won
the top prize of the competition. Other classes included an Astor
Piazolla section, jazz, light and classical music.
Along with the competition, concerts were held
most nights, including Mika
Vayrynen. Amongst his program he performed a World Premiere
of "Gate Crasher", by Finish composer Olli Kortekangas.

Accordion Festival 2002 - Sweden

The Accordion Festival 2002 will be held at
the Royal College of Music in Stockholm on November 15th and 16th.
This year's event will feature guest accordionist Maria Kalaniemi.
Other performers include Anita Agnas, Daniel
Andersson, Åsa Arvidsson, Jukka Arvola, Lena Dahlberg, Petri Goman,
Daniel Grahn, Peter Gullans, Lars-Åke Gustafsson, Annette Hall,

French National Accordion Festival

The French National Accordion Festival will
continue with a concert on November 10th at the Salle le Forum au
Centre des Expositions which will include non-stop dancing until
the early hours of the morning on three separate stages. Entertainers
include André Loppe (Belgium), Jo Privat Jr. & Muriel, Alexandra
Paris, Claude Barbottin, Natalie Boucheix, Denis Glomeau, David
Kasmareck, Bénédicte Jeulin and two orchestras - Franck Vilain and
Sandrine Tarayre. This event will be presented by Pascal Savard.

NAO North West Accordion Championships/Tameside
Accordion Festival - England

The NAO
North West Accordion Championships/Tameside Accordion Festival will
take place in the main town hall of Ashton-u-Lyne on November 17th.
Competitions will be held throughout the day in two playing halls.
Trade exhibitions will be in the Medlock suite, including Gina "Music
World UK" Geoff Holter Accordions, Electronic Accordions and the
Music Corner (formerly Dave Mallinsons). Outside the Town Hall attendees
can visit the famous Sunday market/car boot without wheels. For

2nd Annual "Accordion Day" in
Bari - Italy

The second annual "Accordion Day" organized
by the class of accordion lecturer Francesco
Palazzo will be held on October 27th at the Piccinni Conservatory
in Bari. As last year, the aim of this event will be to foster a
new classical accordion culture in the area.
The Day will consist of three main events:
a workshop/seminar held by well-known American accordionist and
special guest Peter Soave, who will meet accordion students at the
Conservatory and work alongside them; a series of non-stop performances
by the students and a number of guests, who will perform both as
soloists and in trios, quintets and accordion orchestras; a final
concert by Peter Soave.
Soloists who will take part in the non-stop
performance are Simone Attanasio, Paolo d'Ascanio, Loredana Carriero,
Cilio Soccorso, Giovanni Filomeno, Vito Carlo Fraccalvieri, Domenico
Giove, Ryuya Kinoshita, Camillo Maffìa, Nicola Mauro, Marco Pasculli,
Edmond Peku and Fabio Zurlo.

"Camerata Nuevotango" - Spain
Bandoneon soloist Enrique A Telleria will perform
at the in the Paraninfo of the Central University of Barcelona on November
14th. Telleria will be accompanied by a group, unique in Spain consisting
of violins, violas, cellos, bass, piano, percussion and vocals. Their
program will include tango pieces by Astor Piazzolla plus works by classical
composers. This is part of the orchestral group's Autumn 2002 programme.
This concert is part of a series organised by the
Department of Cultural Activities of the University, coordinated by Vicky

Matinee
Concert by First Cologne Orchestra - Germany

will give a matinee concert at the Arthur-Bantle-Halle, in Hardt

Duo Tours Canada
Accordionist Jim Payne and Fergus O'Byrne (banjo,
guitar, concertina, bodhran, mandolin and tin whistle) will tour
Ontario, Canada from November 5th to 13th giving a variety of performances
in schools, folk clubs, halls and theatres. Concerts will be given
in Marie, Sudbury, Midland, Waterloo, Toronto, Kingston, Trenton,
Belleville and Cobourg.

Farewell Concert - New Zealand

On October 11th a farewell concert was held at the
Takapuna War Memorial Hall in Takapuna for accordionist Campbell Bettridge.
Campbell left New Zealand the following day to compete in the Coupe
Mondiale competition in Copenhagen, Denmark. Performances were given
by the North Shore Accordion Orchestra (conducted by Lionel
Reekie), Travis McWalter, Jessica Chen and Adam Thorpe. To finish
the concert, Campbell performed his competition program, receiving a standing
ovation.
