Coupe Mondiale in Copenhagen Largest Ever! - Denmark

One hundred and eight of the worlds finest accordionists
will converge on the city of Copenhagen, Denmark to take part in
the annual Confederation Internationale des Accordeonistes (CIA)
Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships from October 16th to
20th. Organized by the CIA
member association Danske Harmonikaspilleres Landsforbund (DHL),
the World Championships will include competition in six categories.
During the festival the DHL will celebrate its
25th Anniversary with a special Jubilee Concert featuring many outstanding
performances. The Allerød Accordion Orchestra conducted by Peter
Anders has prepared great performances with internationally known
soloists such as the Semionov
Duo, trumpet virtuoso Gorm Hovalt and violinists Christian Ellegaard
and Lousinne Azizian. (Christian is the son of the late accordion
virtuoso Mogens Ellegaard).

As with all competitions, the CIA
will operate their categories under their respective published guidelines,
therefore candidates entering the Coupe Mondiale are reminded to
review the competition rules extremely closely to avoid any unnecessary
mark penalties. For further information on these rules and penalties

website under both General Competition Guidelines and the published
guidelines for the various categories.

"Trio Fratres" in Austria and
Germany
The
Fratres accordion trio performed a concert in Villingen-Schwenningen,
Germany on September 20th and at Grafenegg Castle, Austria on the
22nd. The Austrian concert was held in conjunction with a large
festival with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and pianist Ralf Gothoni.
Their program included Mussorgsky's giant work
"Pictures at an Exhibition" (arranged for three accordions), works
from leading Finnish composers Olli Kortekangas, Herman Rechberger
and Tuomas Kantelinen.

"Prize of Montese" International
Accordion Competition - Italy
The
"Prize of Montese" International Accordion Competition was held
in the little town of Montese (near Bologna) from September 13th
to 15th. This is the 8th time this town has become the centre of
accordion life in north Italy with 86 accordionists from Italy,
Russia, Lithuania, Netherlands and Ukraine taking part.
This
year's event included an accordion seminar dedicated to the history
and problems of the accordion with very short but intensive and
informative theoretic lectures by Giuliano Biolchini (bandoneon
theory), Marco Fabbri (bandoneon) and Renzo
Ruggieri (jazz accordion). The lectures included brilliant musical
illustrations which were a great success with young performers and
their teachers.
The
international competition jury consisted of President, Vladimir
Zubitsky (Italy-Ukraine), Lorenzo Munari, Paolo
Picchio, Cesare
Chiacchiaretta (Italy), Isaco Comandini (San Marino), Anatoly
Semeshko (Ukraine) and Anatoly Senine (Netherlands).

Duo Bartolo Performs in Bulgaria

The "Duo Bartolo" gave a series of three well received
concerts in Pleven from September 11th to 15th. The duo consists of German
musicians Ralf Bethke (accordion) and Harald Kronibus (baritone), who
usually perform as the "Trio Rossini" with Ekaterina Kronibus (who was
unable to participate at this event). The concerts were held in conjunction
with the "Culture Days" festival and were attended by a delegation from
Kaiserslautern (Germany) which included the Mayor of Kaiserslautern, Dr.
Bernhard Deubig, who joined with the Mayor of Pleven, Naiden Selenogorski,
to open the ceremonies.
The duo's first concert was held in the gallery Swetlin
Russev (one of the largest galleries in Bulgaria), followed by an open
air concert at the Vazrachdane, which included entertainment by the "Zwanika"
children's choir, the Big Band (from the Kaiserslautern High School) and
a "Rope Skipping demonstration team".
Their final performance was at the opening celebration
of the medical University of Pleven. Their program included works from
operas by Rossini and Mozart and pieces from the musical "French Chansons".
The concerts were very popular with the Bulgarian audiences.

Claudio Jacomucci in Tianjin -
China

Italian accordionist Claudio
Jacomucci took part in the Tianjin
International Accordion Competition (China) from August 24th
to September 3rd during which he performed pieces by Garau, Zorn,
Kurtag and Piazzolla. He also was a member of the competition jury
which included Friedrich
Lips, Elsbeth Moser, Cao
Xiao-Qing, Oleg
Sharov, Wang Yu Ping, Wang Shusheng and other well-known Chinese
musicians. During his visit Claudio held a masterclass on the Alexander
Technique for accordionists at the Tianjin Conservatory and an accordion
course at the Conservatory in Xi'an (the city of the famous "Army
of clay"). These events were attended by hundreds of participants
and uncovered the immense potential of this new Chinese accordion
movement, which can already boast numerous young talents and enthusiastic
teachers.
Other
events which have featured Jacomucci recently, include his appearance
as a juror during the Klingenthal
International Competition, holding Alexander Techniques course
in Bologna, Milan, Rome and Recanati, holding a Klezmer and Tango
course for accordionists in Castelgiorgio, and completing a new
CD entitled "Road Runner" with music by Berio, Donatoni, Sciarrino,
Kurtag, De Pablo and Zorn which will be presented in Castelfidardo
on October 11th.
Currently Claudio lives and works in Bologna,
teaches Alexander Technique in Bologna, Milan, Rome and Rimini,
and has a busy concert schedule. For future concert information

New
Collaborations and Projects for Renzo Ruggieri - Italy
Accordionist
Renzo
Ruggieri recently gave several performances with different jazz
groups during national and international accordion events. This
included concerts on August 3rd in Capistrello with Toni Fidanza
(piano) and Enrico Melozzi (cello), at a July accordion competition
in Cherchio (province of l'Aquila) with Angelo Canelli (piano),
Nicola Angelucci (drums) and Marco Loddo (double bass), in Benevento
with Paolo Di Sabatino (piano), Marco Pesaresi (double bass) and
Roberto Desiderio (drums) on August 4th, and in a concert that ended
with a jam session with Peppino
Principe which was appreciated by the audience.
During
July the "Renzo Ruggieri Group" was invited to perform in one of
the most important Italian jazz events, "Pescara Jazz", where it
presented its latest CD entitled "Spaghetti Time". For information

On August 16th Renzo took part in the prestigious "Progetto Cultura"
of Castelbasso (province of Teramo), where he played with musicians
who have accompanied him in his latest albums (Di Sabatino, Manzi,
Moriconi). On August 31st, he played in the magnificent castle of
Arsoli, with Riccardo Pellefrino (violin), Massimo Aureli (guitar),
Giorgio Rosciglione (double bass) and Cicci Santucci (trumpet).
On September 14th, Ruggieri also held a seminar on "The Styles of
Jazz Accordionists" during the Montese International Competition,
in which he performed together with Max Dall'Omo (drums) and Roberto
Bartoli (double bass).
During the summer Ruggieri was also invited
to perform with vocalist Antonella Ruggieri in Gallipoli for a prestigious
concert televised by the national broadcasting corporation, in which
Ruggieri was acclaimed for his arrangement for three accordionists
and orchestra performed alongside fellow accordionists Mario Pietrodarchi
and Osvaldo Garnieri.

2002 Autumn Tour - Germany
Accordionist Lydie
Auvray & the Auvrettes will begin their "Autumn Tour" on October 4th
in Hameln. The tour will include concerts in many towns and cities during
October, November and December such as Driedorf, Pforzheim, Karlsruhe,
Hockenheim, Osnabrück, Garbsen, Cologne, Bad Kissingen, Trier, Langenfeld
and a final concert in Aachen on December 19th.
Their program includes a variety of pieces such as

"Sounds Artisans" Performance -
Japan

"Sounds Artisans", which features accordionist
Oleg Lips-Roumiantsev (born in Russia & now living in Switzerland)
performed at the "Musashino Koukaido" public house in Tokyo on September
26th.
Their next performance will be at the Miyako
no Mori Ongaku Hall (Hall of Forest Miyako) in Isesaki City, Gumma
Prefecture on September 28th. Their program will include works by
Rossini, Albinoni's "Adagio", Vivaldi's "Concerto Gross" etc. For

Australian accordionist Bernadette
Conlon is researching early reed instruments and would like
information about Flautinas, which were made in France and are sometimes
referred to as Clavier Melodiques. They usually had about 2 octaves
on the treble side, and sometimes 2 bass notes. They were played
