Korbakov Performs to Capacity Crowds
- England
Contributed
by Mike O'Regan
A capacity crowd in the Village Centre, Rothley, Leicestershire
enjoyed a wonderful three hour concert of classical and Russian folk music
by bayanist Alexander Korbakov recently. Alexander was supported by the
Burton-on-Trent Accordion Band (MD Stan Schofield), which is unusual (in
the UK) in that 12 of the 15 players are female.
Alexander's program included "Turkish Rondo" (Mozart),
"Grande Valse Brillante", op. 18. (Chopin), "Tritsch Tratsch Polka (Strauss)
and "Sabre Dance" (Khachaturian). The Accordion Band played a variety
of pieces such as Medley from "My Fair Lady", "Blue Tango", "Moonlight
Serenade", finishing with an old-time sing-a-long medley.
Korbakov
was also the guest artist at the June meeting of "Les Amis de l'Accordeon
de Jersey" in Jersey, Channel Isles, where he gave a popular concert which
featured both classical works and Russian traditional music. He was invited
to perform at this event by professional accordionist Steve Roxton and
his wife Maggie, who run the accordion club. At the conclusion of the
concert, members were treated to a duet by Steve and Alexander when they
played "Sakkijarven Polka".
Both men are enjoying huge success in their separate
fields. Alexander is continuing with his English and Irish tour through
to June 21st. For further Korbakov concert details phone: +44 1564 776376
Steve is to take a break from entertaining Jersey holiday makers. On July
13th he will entertain French crowds on the winning line of the famous
cycle race "The Tour de France" as it enters the Normandy town of Avranches.
An event with massive media coverage.
