Viennese Accordion Festival Continues to Entertain - Austria

Richard GallianoSandy BrechinContributed by Dr Herbert Scheibenreif Manager of Friedrich Lips Productions

The Viennese Accordion Festival continued with its 2nd successful week. Richard Galliano can be called the founder of "New Musette" by adding elements of cool jazz, bebop, gypsy swing, bossa and of course tango to the traditional music of his country. Richard was joined by Michel Portal (saxophone & bass clarinet) who is also known for his enormous versatility when changing easily from Mozart to Stockhausen or Argentine bandoneon fantasies.

Renato BorghettiThe Ensemble Klesmer (from Ukraine/Austria/Bulgaria) performed with "Kohelet" (from Slovenia/Ukraine/USA/Austria) showing the accordion's versatility in wonderful Jewish folk traditional music. "Deishovida" (Austria) and Sandy Brechin & Band (Scotland) created new sounds with the accordion without neglecting their traditional roots. Another highlight of the week were Renato Borghetti & Band (Brazil) and the Klaus Paier Trio performing with a string quartet.
