"A
Day Without Car" is "A Day Without Concert!!" - Netherlands
Contributed by Hillebrand van der Veen
The Forzando Light Orchestra's November 4th
concert was cancelled because of a unique event. Due to environment
protection-measures, many cities and villages celebrated "A day
without a car". Unfortunately this meant that Amsterdam was blocked
for vehicle traffic and the concert venue could not be reached by
the orchestra!! This would be one of the more amazing ways to have
a concert cancelled.
The Forzando Light Orchestra will next perform
at "De Lishof" Old folks home in Oostzaan Village, Amsterdam on
November 25th. For details email: H.J.Veen@net.HCC.nl

A Busy Summer for Renzo Ruggieri
- Italy
This
summer was a very busy one for jazz accordionist Renzo
Ruggieri, whose concert season took him to several parts of
Italy performing with a number of top class musicians. Between May
and August 2001 Renzo played in Teramo, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Salerno,
Pescara, Mosciano Sant'Angelo, Capistrello, Atri and Berbenno.
During this tour Renzo performed with Massimo
Manzi, Paolo Di Sabatino, Maurizio Rolli, Marcello Sebastiani, Gianni
Cazzola, Bruno De Filippi, Fabrizio Bosso, Giovanni Finizii and
the "Orchestra Contemporanea". The concerts included a performance
with Toni Fidanza and Gianluca Caporale at the "Cinema Symphonies"
event in Montefiore dell'Aso, where the trio provided a live soundtrack
to the silent movie "Metropolis".
Following are some comments about the tour:
"I hadn't listened to such a moving concert for years." (Bruno
De Filippi).
"...Ruggieri manages to have a modern approach without ever losing
sight of the elegiac tone and the flavours of the Parisian bistros
- in his hands the accordion finds a new dignity and new musical
pieces, among which a special mention is deserved by "Piccolo valzer
francese". (Piero Stacchiotti, Jazzit, Sept./Oct. 2001). .

New Concerto for Accordion Orchestra
- Spain
Contributed by Enrique Uhalde
A new concerto in three movements for accordion
orchestra is now available, composed by Carlos Etxeberria (Spain).
The first movement uses a complex technique that requires great
virtuosity and gives the idea of opposition and self respect between
the soloist and the orchestra. The second movement shows the different
effects of the accordion. The work takes approximately 20 minutes
.
The composer studied composition with Agustín
González Acilu, Luis de Pablo, Jesús Villarojo, Gabriel Brncic,
Adolfo Núñez and Ricardo Climent. He has also studied Jazz Harmony,
Choral Conducting and Orchestral Conducting and is currently the
Principal Conductor of the Pamplona "Amalur Chamber Orchestra".
