Contributed by Jim Lucas The first Scandinavian Squeeze-In held on April 15th in Olserod, Sweden was a great success. Concertina players from Sweden, England, Russia and Denmark enjoyed a relaxed informal atmosphere listening to solo performances, group playing, discussions about music and techniques, learning music and playing skills from each other, as well as jamming. Levels of concertina experience ranged from one to twenty-five years, with performing experience ranging from semi-professional to "once in public, by mistake"! They played a variety of music which included traditional tunes and songs from various countries, recently-composed music, classical music (Mozart) and even a little jazz. There was also some dancing and lots of singing. Organizers are currently planning next year's event. For further details email: jel@danbbs.dk |

Accordion teacher Renzo Ruggieri makes ample use of computers for his activity, and has recently taken up the hobby of programming alongside his musical commitments. His latest achievement is a software package for PC that requires students to recognise a series of notes (which get progressively more difficult). The unique feature of the software is the inclusion of two keyboards (for piano and chromatic accordions) on which the student has to locate the notes. A second piece of software enables users of the ORLA XM600 expander to obtain the characteristic sounds produced by Hammond organs (Drawbars). Both programs can be downloaded free of charge from the internet. For further details email: renrug@libero.it |
